Durham Children’s Aid Foundation (DCAF) is currently supporting over 400 children, youth and their families. Families are struggling with mounting anxiety, fear and stress due to limited financial support. Families are experiencing reduced food supplies, a need for appropriate toys, protective masks and clothing. During COVID-19 supporting children is required as they are forced to spend additional time in vulnerable situations due to a lack of activities; the potential for abuse increases. Accessible technology is a real need as children seek to communicate with family members, often living in separated situations. It’s important for children to be able to communicate with their friends, parents and extended family. Front-line workers require access via reliable communication to support and encourage families. The use of technology is now required for online learning. Youth who are preparing for post-secondary school must have reliable access to technology (i.e., laptop).
Children and youth are not benefiting from school programs, summer camps and other community services. With distancing restrictions in place, the pressure is a major concern as families try to deal with the negative impacts of the pandemic. Children and youth are still experiencing the negative effects of social isolation and a lack of active opportunities. During the long and hot days, children and youth need an opportunity to experience and enjoy other activities. It is a relief that playgrounds have recently reopened, providing a place to play.
DCAF relies on your generous donations as we provide essential front line assistance and support during COVID-19: Supporting Children. Your donation of $50 can help provide much needed food. $75 – $100 can assist with expenses to keep homes safe and comfortable during this time of uncertainty. A donation of $250 would help support an active/virtual activity for a child or youth. Show Your Support – TODAY!
