The Durham Children’s Aid Foundation raises funds through various programs and events. The money raised benefits children and youth involved with Durham Children’s Aid Society. The funds are dedicated to key areas, each providing help in different but essential ways.
It is because of the support of the community that we have been able to start extending a helping hand to those children in need, helping to break the cycle of abuse and neglect, and to foster the healthy development of youth into socially responsible adults.
The areas supported by the Foundation are services that are not covered by government funding. These programs are:
- Post-secondary education bursaries for youth in care.
- Recreation, enrichment and skill development programs such as organized sports, music lessons, after school activities and school trips.
- Summer camp subsidies.
- Mental Health & Wellness such as funding for therapeutic and counselling groups for children and families, to reduce the risk of abuse and neglect before they happen and for crisis intervention and assessment.
- Holiday Hope– providing gift hampers for children/youth across Durham region.
